Vision Services

• Per North Carolina state law, Medicaid members must receive their first pair of glasses through Nash Optical, the State supplier.
• Providers obtain prior approval for the fabrication of eyeglass frames listed in the frame catalog via the NCTracks provider portal.
• Nash Optical will ship the eyeglasses to the provider’s office.
• After the eyeglasses are dispensed to the member, the provider must submit a claim for the vision exam to ACNC using the guidelines on the Claims and Billing webpage.
• Providers may contact the Nash Optical Plant at 888-388-1353 for an updated frame catalog.

• Nash Optical also offers a sample frame kit and catalog for members' to review eyeglass frame options.

Using Robertson Optical Laboratories, ACNC provides an additional pair of glasses as an  to its Medicaid managed care members. Also, an additional eye exam is available every two years to adult members ages 21 through 64.

Frame Kits

• Vision providers will receive an ACNC Medicaid frame kit from Robertson Optical with 12 men’s styles and 12 women’s styles from which members may choose. The kit includes two hard-shell cases  with clear covers for frame display.
• The provider will be charged $100 for the frame kit, which is refundable in the event a Vision Care provider leaves the ACNC provider network.
• ACNC vision providers must keep the ACNC Medicaid frames with the ACNC Medicaid frame kit. 

Each frame comes with a 1-year manufacturer warranty. The warranty does not cover frame abuse. 

Eligible ACNC members may choose any frame with either single vision, bifocal, or progressive lenses.

Requirements for eligibility, ordering, and billing

• To be eligible for reimbursement, the second eye exam must be performed no sooner than 365 days after the last eye exam.
• To be eligible for reimbursement, the second pair of glasses must be dispensed no sooner than 365 days after the prior pair was dispensed.
• Providers must order the ACNC glasses through LabLizard, an online ordering portal.  Each ACNC Vision Provider will receive an account profile from Robertson Optical Laboratories that will include a unique account number and a unique set of credentials to access the portal. 
• When a provider submits an order, the provider will be prompted to provide the date that the most recent Medicaid fee-for-service glasses were dispensed. Without this date, the order cannot proceed.
• Once the order has been completed, Robertson Optical Laboratories will ship the eyeglasses to the ACNC vision provider.

Provider Training

• Robertson Optical Laboratories will provide the following training to ACNC vision providers upon request:
  • Fitting eyeglasses from the ACNC Medicaid frame kit for ACNC Medicaid members.
  • Placing eyeglass orders with Robertson Optical Laboratories for each eligible ACNC Medicaid member.
